Five Bite-Sized Lunchtime Talks at Limerick Georgian House
Limerick Civic Trust announces a series of culture and heritage talks, designed to suit short lunchbreaks, during the week commencing March 8 th . Each weekday sees a different theme addressed by an expert in the relevant field.
Ada Rehan, Limerick's Frontier Actress , is the title of the first talk to be given by Joanne Beirne , Artistic Director of the Belltable Arts Centre, on Monday March 8 th . Beirne will give an overview of the life of Ada Rehan, Limerick 's International 19 th century, pioneering stage actress – a fitting talk to coincide with International Women's Day.
Owning and Restoring a Historic House is the title of a talk on March 9 th by Professor Merritt Bucholz, Head of Architecture at University of Limerick . Bucholz has recently renovated a Georgian house in the heart of Limerick City and, in addition to his vast professional expertise, will impart some of his personal experiences of renovation and restoration.
Ambassadors of Etiquette is the title of a talk by Dave Lee on Wednesday, March 10 th . Lee, Supervisor of the History and Folklore Department of Limerick Civic Trust presents a humorous take on the decline of manners and etiquette in everyday life and suggests a crusade to recreate a polite society in Limerick .
Maintaining a Listed Building is the subject of a talk by Conservation Architect, David Humphreys on Thursday, March 11 th . Humphries will talk about the trials and tribulations associated with owning a listed building followed by a questions and answers section at the end. With over 25 years experience, Humphreys offers an opportunity to seek advice from a practicing professional.
An Introduction to Catherine Hayes, a talk on Limerick 's world renowned Irish Diva will close the week's events on Friday, March 12 th . Kate Harrold, Project Manager with Limerick Civic Trust has studied the life of the Limerick-born Soprano, in conjunction with the Trust's proposed redevelopment of No. 4 Patrick St. , Hayes birthplace. Harrold will give a brief introduction to Hayes' life and will be joined by Sarah Dolan, emerging Limerick Soprano who will give a rendition of some of Catherine Hayes arias.
