The project was divided into phases that included dealing with structural problems such as dry rot and the need to strengthen the structure by inserting steel beams into the ground and first floors. This was followed by more detailed and painstaking work such as stripping away the successive layers of paint that had clogged up the plaster cornices and ceiling roses, obscuring the details. Finally, the house was redecorated, the paintwork reproducing the colours the Georgian period and the wallpaper based on authentic colours and pattering.
The excavation of the garden with the aid of the 1840 Ordinance Survey map, uncovered the original layout of the paths, beds and privies allowing an authentic Georgian garden to be reinstated.
