The house has been converted into flats in the 1960’s, a number of principal rooms having been subdivided by partition walls with bathrooms and kitchenettes installed. The first task of the restoration team was the removal of these 20th century alterations and a major discovery was made when, under several layers of wallpaper, the original marbling paint work on the hall and stairs was uncovered. Other hidden treasures such as fireplace surrounds and the original stone flagging on the lower basement floor were also revealed. Much of the original joinery (doors, window shutters, sash windows etc.) was found to be still in good condition and only four of the sash windows required extensive repairs.
